In order for hospitals, medical schools, and surgical centers to incorporate and accommodate for Hijab in the Operating Room, policy needs to be written or addended. Below is an example of the text necessary for drafting policy to be included for the hospital, adapted from the AORN policy.
“Religious head coverings (hijab) that are light-colored, freshly laundered, clean, constructed of tightly-woven and low-linting material, without adornments, and fit securely with loose ends tucked in the scrub top may be worn to cover the hair and scalp in the semi-restricted and restricted area.”
